As a result of the Chicago Title merger in 2000 and the acquisition of the major LandAmerica underwriters in 2008, Fidelity National Financial, parent company of Ticor Title Insurance, was operating with twelve distinct title insurance underwriters. It was determined that significant regulatory, statutory, legal, operating and oversight costs associated with operating so many underwriters could be eliminated and yet still maintain the high level of service clients have come to expect from the Fidelity family of underwriters.
On July 1, 2010, the twelve Fidelity National Financial title insurance underwriters were reduced to five: Alamo Title Insurance, Chicago Title Insurance Company, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company, Continental Title Insurance Company and Fidelity National Title Insurance Company. Ticor Title Insurance has merged with Chicago Title Insurance Company.
